Would this nation or the world panic if we knew aliens existed? by Tony Garcia
Answer by Tony Garcia:
In 1960, NASA commissioned the Brookings Institution to report on the possibility of discovering extraterrestrial life. The result was a 186 page document entitled “Proposed Studies on the Implications of Peaceful Space Activities for Human Affairs.”
The report postulated on the public’s reaction if NASA found evidence of extraterrestrial life, like artifacts left on the moon, or even a face-to-face meeting with the aliens. Anticipating panic, the report suggested the government withhold that information from the public. And considering the insular nature of the military and the U.S. government, I doubt there would be any deviation from this suggestion.
